Monica Grainger, M.S.W., R.S.W., is a psychotherapist who believes that a holistic approach to achieving a healthy mind, body and spirit is the only true way to cultivate a mentally healthy individual. As a psychotherapist, she encourages her clients to nourish healthier lifestyles primarily through cognitive behavioural therapy, nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness practices.
Monica has been working as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist for over 10 years. In her previous employment with the Kawartha District School Board she worked with children and families as a School Board Counsellor for 11 years. Her focus has been to enhance a person’s competency in promoting mental health and empowerment, managing stress, enriching communication, fostering resiliency, and strengthening self-esteem. Prior to working with children, adolescents, and families, she worked at the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group in the Adult Outpatient department working with adults and couples with a range of mental health issues: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, eating disorders, grief, and life transitions. She has had training in Suicide Prevention techniques and has much experience working with individuals in crisis. Recently, Monica has been influenced by positive psychology and mindfulness. By focusing on one’s strengths she helps her clients improve their quality of life, by helping them focus on living in the present and being optimistic about their future.
Monica graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University. A native of Ottawa, she received her Bachelor Honors in Psychology and went on to study at the University of Toronto where she acquired her Master’s in Social Work. In addition, she studied at the University of Grenoble in France and is fluently bilingual in English and French .
